"The General's Resignation" follows Shen Zhao, the secret "Ghost-Faced General" of the Northern Army, who disguises herself as an overlooked marquis' daughter to marry Prince Rong Jing of Ding, all to investigate her brother's mysterious death in battle. Rong Jing, resenting the imperial marriage, treats her with icy indifference and falls for his cousin's schemes, hurting her repeatedly. When the border is attacked, Shen Zhao is forced to reveal her true identity and lead troops to fight. It's only then that Rong Jing realizes he's long loved this "weak" wife—and uncovers the sacrifices she's made. As Shen Zhao returns victorious, those who wronged her face harsh retribution, while Rong Jing embarks on a desperate journey to win back the woman who dared to fight the world but was lost to him.
