Gu Zhao, an ancient book restorer, breaks into the legendary "soul-eating" Forbidden Archive to find his missing master. Each dusty book here holds a living obsession—someone slaughtered a village for immortality, someone has been trapped in their wedding night for a century due to unrequited love. When Gu Zhao accidentally triggers The Record of Returning Ruins, he sees his past life as the archive's guardian: he broke the rules to save his lover A Zhao, only to make her soul dissipate. And his master is actually the senior brother who helped him cover up the crime! Now the archive's barrier is weakening, and A Zhao's residual soul has become a vengeful ghost. Gu Zhao must unravel the secrets of the books while facing his thousand-year-old sin—redemption, or沉沦 again?
