A quarrelsome mother and her rebellious teen daughter are suddenly transported to 1980s China, stranded in a state-owned factory compound with no cash or food coupons. The overworked mom is forced to start a street stall to make ends meet, while her daughter just wants to laze around and mooch off her. But the teen soon discovers she holds future knowledge that lets her spot profitable business opportunities. At first they clash constantly, but gradually bond as they navigate the early days of China’s reform and opening-up, turning their chaotic cross-time journey into a warm tale of family, growth and unexpected success.
