Lin Xiaoman has guarded her mother’s old tailor shop for a decade, never taking down the “Waiting for You Home” sign—ten years ago, her mom went to buy soy sauce and vanished. Her dad keeps pushing her to move to a new house and “let go,” neighbor Aunt Zhou brings soup but avoids talking about her mom, and even her elementary school deskmate suddenly returns to ask, “Did your mom hide something back then?” Until a woman in the same dark green qipao as her mom shows up, handing over a pearl hairpin: “She didn’t disappear—she just didn’t dare come back.” Xiaoman smashes the old wall crack and finds her mom’s diary: When her dad failed in business and wanted to sell the shop, her mom pretended to disappear to save the store full of memories. She hid in the opposite building every day, watching Xiaoman grow up. And all the neighbors were helping her mom keep this “lie of love” to spare Xiaoman’s feelings.
