Lin Zhao, who has lived for a thousand years, has long lost feeling for the Spring Festival—until the news of her old hometown house being demolished forces her back to the place with her only warm memory. While packing, a faded candy wrapper revives a promise from fifty years ago: she took in the homeless little Tang, and they made lanterns with red paper, vowing to "eat dumplings together every year". But Tang lost contact after growing up. Now, Duoduo, a neighbor's girl, comes with the same candy wrapper: "Grandma said to return this to Sister Zhao Zhao". When Lin Zhao sees the sick, amnesiac Tang and takes out the old lantern, Tang's cloudy eyes suddenly light up—turns out, the thousand-year wait was never hers alone. This Spring Festival, they will make up for all the missed "togethers".
