Fu Yanzhi, the regent who rules Great Wei with an iron fist, is feared as the "Living Yama" by all. His world shifts when he's gravely injured falling off a cliff and saved by Shen Zhaozhao, a herbalist. He plans to cast her aside once she's useful, but when he sees her burn her hand making medicine for him, he involuntarily holds her fingers. When a noble lady bullies her, he smashes the lady's jade hairpin in public. Even when enemies attack, his first thought is hiding her in a secret chamber. Shen Zhaozhao, once terrified of him, discovers the "heartless" man secretly mends her dress burned by medicine pots and pats her back during nightmares. Just as she hopes for a future together, Fu Yanzhi's political foes reveal she's the late emperor's orphan—his most guarded weakness becomes a weapon against him. A choice between power and love pushes their relationship to the edge.
