In the 1980s, in a mountain village in western Zhejiang, educated youth Lin Wan broke into the village's "man-eating pond" to find herbs for her terminally ill mother, only to be framed by village bully Zhou Hu for "pushing his brother Zhou Bao into the pond". The whole village planned to drown her in a pig cage to "appease the pond god". At the critical moment, the deep pond suddenly churned—Zhou Bao's body floated up, with a ledger of Zhou Hu's embezzled relief funds in his pocket! Even more shocking, the old boatman who saved her was the former village head killed by Zhou Hu ten years ago, who had disappeared into the pond while exposing Zhou Hu's crimes. Using the "pond god's manifestation", Lin Wan uncovered the truth, cleared her name, brought Zhou Hu to justice, and restored justice to the oppressed villagers.
