Lin Yuan, a modern office worker, travels to an alternate dynasty and becomes the sole survivor of a collateral branch of the prime minister's family, which was massacred. He hides his sharpness and builds power, secretly taking over the border army and controlling merchant routes over three years—quietly stationing a million troops without anyone noticing. When he thinks he's finally ready to avenge his family, Ye Qingge, the reigning female emperor, bursts into his barracks in her dragon robe, holding an imperial decree: “Lin Yuan, you took advantage of me when you saved me three years ago—now you have to take responsibility.” It turns out the destitute woman he rescued back then was the emperor herself, traveling incognito; and the truth behind his family's massacre is tangled up in royal secrets. Caught between his blood feud and the emperor's forceful marriage demand, Lin Yuan's journey of counterattack is bound to be a storm of power plays and deep-seated affection.
