In the imperial court of Great Wei, Shen Ye, the Shen family's heir, is widely regarded as a dissolute, irresponsible prodigal—no one knows he holds the lost secret of salt production. When a plague strikes, powerful officials hoard official salt to hike prices, leaving the people in agony. Intending only to lay low, Shen Ye accidentally discovers the naive crown prince being manipulated by corrupt officials. To save the masses and root out traitors, he drops his disguise: secretly making affordable salt to help the people, and training the naive prince into a discerning heir step by step. Finally, he overthrows the all-powerful treacherous official with the crown prince, gains sincere love along the way, and completes his transformation from a prodigal to a court pillar.
