Socially anxious Taoist Lu Qingya goes down the mountain to practice, accidentally awakening Zhao, a thousand-year-old female Bà—an ancient mythical beast with antlers who spews fire when excited, and insists on sticking to him as a "personal bodyguard." To hide Zhao's identity, Lu pretends to be a "loner with a pet," but gets involved in a series of urban missing persons cases: all victims bear the "Burning Curse," with clues pointing to an evil cultivator collecting female Bà's power.
