During the Republic of China era, Su Wanqing, an orphan living with the Su family, was framed by her fiancé Shen Zhaoyuan and stepsister Su Man'er. Falsely accused of losing her virtue, she was driven out. Just when she was desperate, Lu Zheng—the feared "Hell King" military governor known for cold brutality—abducted her back to his mansion. It turns out Lu Zheng was the homeless boy Su Wanqing saved in childhood, having searched for her ten years. To protect her, Lu Zheng forcefully married her and used unyielding methods to avenge her: when Shen Zhaoyuan begged for reconciliation, Lu Zheng slapped down evidence of his affair with Su Man'er; when Su Man'er framed Wanqing for stealing the family heirloom, Lu Zheng exposed her with witnesses and evidence. At first, Wanqing resisted Lu Zheng's dominance, but soon realized his "ferocity" was only for others—cold to enemies, yet tender to her: boiling medicine at night, keeping the childhood safety lock, even taking a bullet for her. Behind this "ferocious devotion" is a decade-long love plan—to shield her under his wings, so she never suffers again.
