Office worker Lin Xiaoman passed out from overwork and woke up squatting outside an iron wok stew restaurant in a Northeast Chinese county—with half a pot of spilled sauerkraut stewed pork ribs on her clothes. It turns out she’s bound to the "Northeast Romance System" and must help the straightforward landlady Shen Dahua find her missing grandfather’s old recipe book to return to reality. But Shen Dahua doesn’t buy into "sweet pet routines" at all; she chases Lin with a big iron spoon, demanding 200 yuan compensation for the broken pot. While Lin learns to stir-fry, competes with the neighboring barbecue stall for repeat customers, she discovers Shen’s soft side behind her loud voice: she’s kept the restaurant open for three years just to wait for her grandfather to come back for a hot bowl of sauerkraut stew. When Lin cooks the first pot of "family-style pork stew" using the grandfather’s old recipe, Shen’s eyes turn red as she picks up a piece of meat—it tastes exactly like what her grandfather used to make. But the system suddenly prompts "mission completed," and Lin, staring at the bubbling soup in the wok, panics: should she go back to the coffee cup in the office building, or stay by this iron wok and stew a烟火 romantic life with Shen Dahua?
