In a 1990s Northeast Chinese city, laid-off worker Li Dazhuang holds on to his father's barbecue stall "My Big Grilled Pork Kidneys"—his and his little sister's link to home. In this third part, urban renewal threatens to tear down the old stall. Dazhuang can't bear to lose the spot full of youth memories, yet needs to save money for his sister's college tuition. A rival sabotages his grill, but neighbors come together: they contribute parts to fix it and add a touch of their own to his recipe. Through the warmth of Northeast people, Dazhuang realizes the aroma of grilled kidneys is nice, but the human connections in the smoky street life are truly precious.
