Lin Wan, a daughter-in-law pregnant with her deceased husband’s unborn child, is labeled “ill-omened” by the whole village right after his sacrifice, enduring neighbors’ scorn and relatives’ estrangement. To safeguard the child, her mother-in-law Li Guilan secretly sells their old house and takes her to a remote island to survive. On the island, the two, initially distant, gradually build trust. Soon dual crises hit their hometown: wealthy distant relatives eye the inheritance, while former villagers who bullied them come to cause trouble. Can this pair of “unlucky mother-in-law and daughter-in-law” rely on island-forged toughness to stage a comeback, protecting the unborn child and their late loved ones’ dignity?
