Lin Wan is a single mother raising her 5-year-old son Xiaotang alone. One day, Xiaotang suddenly develops a "strange disease"—every midnight, he burns up to 40°C, muttering "the vine is going to catch me" in an unintelligible language, and dry vine branches appear out of thin air by his bed. After visiting all hospitals with no diagnosis, Lin Wan's grandmother, on her deathbed, hands her a jade pendant carved with a Qingqiu pattern, revealing she is the last heir of the hidden metaphysical sect "Qingqiu Hall." To save her son, Lin Wan forces herself to learn talisman-drawing and spiritual object identification, only to accidentally activate the metaphysical power in her blood: her evil-dispelling talismans can summon thunder to shatter yin creatures, and the old jade she touches can reveal the spirits hidden inside. But troubles come one after another: the "Treasure-Seizing Faction" in the metaphysical world claims she is "unworthy of inheriting Qingqiu Hall" and tries to steal her pendant; Xiaotang's illness is not a normal evil, but a "vine-bound soul" curse laid to seize Qingqiu Hall's treasure, the "Life and Death Vine." While hiding her son from pursuit and fighting enemies with her half-baked metaphysical skills, Lin Wan finds things getting more "absurd"—the elder who once called her an "amateur" suddenly comes with his disciples to kowtow, saying she is the direct bloodline of Qingqiu Hall's founder, a "founder-level" existence even her grandmother didn't know about...
