In 1992 Shanghai, laid-off worker Lin Xiaomei sets up her first clothing stall opposite entrepreneur Zhao Mingcheng's boutique. As foreign investment floods the city, a clash between alleyway ingenuity and corporate savvy erupts. But when an old photo surfaces in the account books, it exposes their fathers' life-and-death bond during the Cultural Revolution, forcing them to confront the past while fighting for the future.
