After acquiring a shattered Tang Dynasty golden hairpin and inlaid box at auction, Su Wan finds her dreams haunted by visions of herself as a palace maid forced to witness her mistress's death. Lu Chen, the cold-hearted heir to the auction house, bears the same teardrop mole as the general from her dreams. When the artifacts are restored, the bloody truth of a past betrayal surfaces: Lu Chen's past incarnation handed Su Wan the silk cord for the imperial concubine's execution. His ruthless business maneuvers in the present are designed to lure her into revealing hidden evidence within the box. 'The secret that destroyed empires lies within this gold,' he declares, trapping her in the restoration room. 'Choose: relive your death... or stay in the cage I built across lifetimes?'
