Lin Wan is the last inheritor of the traditional spirit-sealing paper effigy craft. Her dying grandfather strictly forbade her from using the forbidden ritual technique, fearing she would court misfortune from malevolent spirits. But an elderly townsman offers her a life-changing sum to craft a paper effigy for his late wife. As she works, Lin discovers the old man's wife died under suspicious circumstances, and her half-finished paper effigy starts moving on its own, unveiling a dark murder plot hidden in the quiet town.
