Three-year-old Fubao, clutching half a jade pendant and a "lucky star prophecy", bursts into the Marshal's mansion and yells "Daddy" at Gu Yanzhi, who's just been branded "jinxed" after a battle defeat. Gu eyes her warily—what does this uninvited kid want? But then Fubao becomes a walking miracle: the stolen grain is recovered through the dog hole she points out, her glass whistle lures rescuers during an enemy night raid, even Gu's grandmother's chronic illness eases with her "sugar pills". Just as Gu holds Fubao close and accepts her, a cheongsam-clad woman bursts in weeping, claiming Fubao is a "pawn" to exchange for military rations! Yet the jade pendant in Fubao's hand perfectly matches the half Gu has kept for eight years—turns out the female doctor he saved years ago had already left him a "lucky star" daughter?
