In the 1980s, Su Wan, an educated youth sent to the countryside, is isolated by fellow youth due to her poor family background and works as a laborer in a suburban brick factory, where everyone doubts a rural woman like her can make good bricks. By chance, she discovers the key to improving the brick-burning formula and gets help from Lu Cheng, a reticent technician. They collaborate to overcome technical challenges, turning a struggling small brick factory into the largest building materials supplier in the area. As misunderstandings fade and affection grows, they are nearly bankrupted by rumors spread by competitors, but eventually turn the tables to gain both career and romantic fulfillment.
