In the 1980s, Su Wan, an educated youth sent to the countryside, is isolated by fellow youth due to her poor family background and works as a laborer in a suburban brick factory, where everyone doubts a rural woman like her can make good bricks. By chance, she discovers the key to improving the brick-burning formula and gets help from Lu Cheng, a reticent technician. They collaborate to overcome technical challenges, turning a struggling small brick factory into the largest building materials supplier in the area.
