"The Peerless of Great Xia" tells the story of Su Wan, a maid who sweeps the Cold Palace of the Great Xia Dynasty. She accidentally saves Gu Jingyao, the "deposed crown prince" who was poisoned. They depend on each other in the Cold Palace—Su Wan uses her coarse cloth to bandage his wounds, and he teaches her to write the word "Peerless" with a branch. But when Gu Jingyao regains his status as crown prince and returns to the court with the Imperial Order, Su Wan is suddenly accused of being a "remaining evil of the previous dynasty" and thrown into death row. On the day of execution, Gu Jingyao breaks into the execution ground in a dragon robe and throws out the late emperor's edict: "Su Wan is the crown princess of Great Xia personally appointed by me—who dares to touch her?" It turns out that he had known she was his childhood savior since they were in the Cold Palace. The so-called "deposed crown prince" was just a trap to lure out the enemies, and he laid the entire plan just to marry her, the "peerless" one, as his only wife in the Eastern Palace.
