In 1999, Tiexi District of Northeast China, Lin Hao—the son of laid-off workers—is the biggest "free-rider" at Hongtaiyang Internet Cafe. Zhou Xiaoyun, the sharp-tongued owner (five years his senior), scolds him for "wasting time" but secretly keeps the Family Computer cartridge he forgot. When a real estate developer threatens to demolish the cafe and rival Wang Qiang sabotages them (cutting internet, spreading rumors), Lin Hao’s hidden "computer whiz" skills shine: he uncovers Wang’s plot to falsify fire safety records, helps Zhou collect signatures from old residents for a "nostalgia petition", and even reveals the money from the roasted sweet potato she bought him when he was a homeless kid... Turns out he’s here to "repay a debt"? From bickering to fighting side by side, when the millennium bell rings, they not only save their "youth sanctuary" but also turn Hongtaiyang into a chain. The best counterattack? Guarding your "kingdom" and the unspoken crush we had back then.
