In the 1980s, Zhang Xiaogang, in a faded cotton cloth, makes a living at a waste station and is seen as a low-class idler. Until he accidentally finds hidden antiques in discarded items, his life turns around. After getting rich, he meets Lin Xiao, a down-and-out educated youth he once helped. They develop feelings while teaming up for treasure-hunting, slap snobs and unlock more hidden wealth.
