In 1970s rural Northeast China, Dashan, a bold young man making a living by hunting in mountains, saved an old sow with its piglets. This kind act unexpectedly changed his fate: the sow led him to a millennia-old ginseng, which brought his first pot of gold. Later he met Lin Xiao, a gentle educated youth. Lin Xiao didn’t believe his “adventures” at first, but fell in love when helping him fend off village bullies. They overcame era limitations and obstacles together. Dashan became a rich local with integrity, won the girl’s heart, and changed his poor life.
