Lin Zhao, a modern office worker, transmigrated into a starving poor scholar in a famine-stricken village during the Qianyuan Era. In despair, he saved A Ruan, a "female ghost" being beaten by villagers—rumored to steal souls—yet A Ruan cried and vowed to repay him. She brought him life-saving potato porridge at night, helped him expose the village tyrant's grain-hoarding scheme, and even assisted him in becoming the village leader. As their romance grew, Lin Zhao discovered A Ruan's secret: she was a former princess framed by a powerful minister, cursed to appear as a "ghost" every night. Facing both the famine crisis and A Ruan's impending disappearance, Lin Zhao was determined to reverse their fate—not just to survive, but to hold onto the girl who risked everything to repay him.
