Shen Zhaotang, an unfavored concubine's daughter of the prime minister's mansion, is sent as a pawn to marry the sickly Crown Prince Gu Yanzhi. She thinks she'll spend her life with a "living dead man", but Gu Yanzhi is actually faking his illness—he fell in love with her at the Lantern Festival years ago and deliberately asked for her hand to protect her, while secretly investigating a past court bloodbath. To survive, she helps him hide his true state, only to discover his deep affection: he secretly sends her protective talismans when her family bullies her, and guards her bedroom door when she's afraid of the dark. From "fake couple" to true lovers, they uncover the prime minister's treason plot, overthrow the rebels, and finally Gu Yanzhi secures the throne. She becomes the queen. The "several blossoms fall" are the tribulations they went through, and the "clouds clear" is their sweet happy ending—turns out the hardest hardships are all for the sweetest meeting.
