Su Wan, a down-and-out rich daughter, must find a "capable partner to manage the family" within a month to reclaim her grandfather's inheritance. Desperate, she picks up a "thousand-year-old puppet" from an antique stall to act as her "puppet partner." To her shock, the puppet transforms into Gu Yanshen, a retired business tycoon, at night—he’s cursed to only appear human after dark. Su Wan thinks she’s got a "tool" and teaches him to "act" as the perfect partner, but little does she know Gu is secretly helping her resolve family schemes and business traps while playing along. Their fake relationship as "controller and puppet" gradually turns into mutual love, and as their affection deepens, the secrets of Gu’s curse and the conspiracy behind his retirement slowly come to light...
