Lin Chuan, a modern single dad working as a courier, rushes around daily for his daughter Xiaotang’s tuition and delivery orders—until he meets Su Wan, a woman in a moon-white ancient robe, during a delivery. This shadow guard, who points a sword at him and calls him "Your Majesty," reveals his identity: he is the Supreme Emperor of the Great Ning Dynasty a thousand years ago, who faked his death to end a war and accidentally traveled to the modern world. Now, ancient enemies have tracked him down to kill him and reclaim the kingdom, while Su Wan wants to take him back to restore the dynasty. But Lin Chuan, gazing at his daughter’s hand-drawn greeting card, only desires the ordinary life of "sending her to school in the morning and sharing hot meals with her at night." As Su Wan helps him evade pursuit, she gradually falls for this "ordinary man" who squats at the alley entrance to tie his daughter’s shoelaces—caught between the mission of ruling a vast kingdom and the warmth of family and love in the mortal world, Lin Chuan’s choice becomes a dilemma spanning a thousand years.
