Lin Wan, a literature student struggling to stay in college on scholarships, takes a job as an assistant to Professor Lu Jingshen—known for his icy, unapproachable demeanor—to raise money for her mother’s surgery. She expects mistreatment, but instead, Lu secretly pays her mother’s medical bills, defends her against campus rumors, and even brings her warm congee when she pulls all-nighters writing papers.
