In the Southern Liang Dynasty, Shen Zhaozhao, an unloved concubine’s daughter, is forced to marry Xiao Zhuo—the “crippled and vicious” Prince Dingbei—to take the blame for her elder sister. On their wedding night, she braces for death but discovers Xiao Zhuo’s secret: his leg injury is a ruse, and he’s a hidden powerbroker plotting to bring down corrupt officials. From mutual suspicion to teamwork, they counterattack together: Zhaozhao helps Xiao Zhuo unmask traitors and solidify military power; Xiao Zhuo aids her in uncovering her mother’s murder truth and confronting her abusive stepmother and sister. Just as they anticipate peace, the late emperor’s edict reveals Zhaozhao is his long-lost princess! Trapped between the throne’s deadly漩涡 (whirlpool) and their growing love, can they break through the fog of power and hold onto each other’s hearts amid midsummer’s blazing tides?
