Lin Wan, a horsekeeper's daughter from the border, learns her true identity on her mother's deathbed—she is the only daughter of the late National Protector General, whose family was wrongfully executed for "colluding with enemies." During the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse, she heads to the capital with her mother's relics to clear her family's name and accidentally saves Emperor Gu Zhao, who is on an incognito visit. Gu Zhao falls for this brave and resilient girl at first sight and secretly helps her investigate. However, he discovers the injustice is linked to his own ascension—the late emperor framed the Lin family to secure his throne. When the truth comes out, Lin Wan faces a choice between revenge and love, but Gu Zhao pulls out the late emperor's secret edict and his own abdication decree: "I'll give you two things—the Lin family's innocence, and the right to spend every reunited Year of the Horse with you."
