Su Wan, daughter of a wronged official, takes the alias "Hongxing" (Red Apricot) to sneak into the Regent's Mansion as a menial maid, aiming to steal the secret scroll from Regent Xue Ziqi to clear her father's name. Little does she know, the reputedly cold-blooded "Living Yama" has remembered her for a decade—the memory of her feeding him osmanthus cake outside the Minister's Mansion is etched in his soul. Thus, the mansion becomes a stage for the Regent's "chase": he "accidentally" runs into her daily, replaces her tattered clothes with new ones, leaves the scroll within her reach when she tries to steal it, and even snaps "This is mine" when she's bullied. When Su Wan finally gets the scroll, she finds a yellowed osmanthus cake paper inside—Xue Ziqi has already vindicated her father, and all his "tricks" are unspoken love. When she asks tearfully, "You knew who I was all along?", Xue Ziqi smirks: "From the day you stepped on my robe, you've been mine."
