Lin Wan, a female clerk at a clinic, is forcibly summoned to the palace for her excellent medical skills to treat Consort Shen, the powerful figure in the harem who has suffered from a chronic illness for ten years. Consort Shen is arrogant and cold, humiliating Lin Wan as a "lowly doctor" at their first meeting. However, Lin Wan uses acupuncture to cure her cold toxin and uncovers the old wound hidden under her phoenix crown—it was left when she saved Lin Wan's family years ago. It turns out Lin Wan is the daughter of the wronged imperial doctor, and Consort Shen is the daughter of a general who entered the palace to investigate a royal injustice. From clashing fiercely to working together to clear the injustice, when Lin Wan reveals the truth with the late emperor's edict, Consort Shen smiles and takes off her phoenix crown: "I'll guard the world for you, and you guard my heart for me."
