Lin Xiaoman, an ad agency workaholic burning the midnight oil on a proposal, runs into Jiang Yuchuan—her high school crush and once top student—at a convenience store. The former academic star now huddles on the steps in a tattered coat, clutching a termination letter. Thinking she’s there to save the fallen boy, she helps him find a job and brings him hot porridge daily, oblivious to the diamond brooch in his pocket and the confidential files about her company’s impending acquisition on his laptop. When she knocks on his rental door with a homemade cake, Jiang Yuchuan is staring at a contract reading "Terminate Hostile Takeover of Lin’s Enterprise"—his "downfall" is a disguise to get close and protect her crumbling family business. This "saving" was a mutual game from the start.
