Lin Xiaoman, an overworked office worker, picks up an injured border collie late at night and nurses it back to health. To her surprise, Shen Mo, a cold and wealthy CEO, shows up demanding "compensation"—claiming the dog is his late mother's last keepsake and that its missed treatment due to being lost means Xiaoman must care for it until full recovery. Xiaoman thinks he's blackmailing her, but as they spend time together, she discovers Shen Mo's tough exterior hides grief from his mother's death. Meanwhile, her life, drained by endless overtime, gains warmth from the dog. Just as things soften, Shen Mo's ex-girlfriend returns, insisting the dog was a gift from her and demanding to take it back. It's then they realize: Xiaoman never owed a "dog debt"—she owed herself the courage to admit her feelings. Shen Mo never wanted "compensation"—he wanted the courage to love again.
