The young emperor ascends the throne amidst universal deference, yet is imprisoned by the iron rule that "no subject may look upon the Son of Heaven." But when an audacious royal guard meets his gaze and a painting restorer's daughter steals into his chambers at midnight, their forbidden presence cracks his isolated world. Passion collides with duty as veiled threats emerge from courtiers. In the chaos of a coup, the guard reveals his true mission as the emperor's secret watcher, while the artisan girl unsheathes her dagger—not for assassination, but to shield him from the assassins sent by her own homeland. A deadly chess game of love and betrayal ignites as blades pierce through imperial robes.
