To save money, Lin Xiao rents an old Western-style house. Every night at 12, the sound of high-heeled dancing from upstairs haunts her. No one admits knowing the noise when she asks the landlord or knocks on neighbors’ doors. Frightened, she stays up late to track it down and discovers the sound comes from a hidden old wooden mechanism in the ceiling: the former owner Su Man, a ballet-loving girl, disappeared years ago, and the dancing sound is her lingering obsession. Lin Xiao finds Su Man’s lost ballet shoes, opening a gentle prelude to this mysterious past.
