Lin Chuan, a programmer, has had a crush on his colleague Su Xiaoyu for three years. This Chinese New Year, he finally invites her home to meet his parents. Fearing Xiaoyu would distance herself if she knew he’s a "rich second generation," Lin told his parents to "stay ordinary"—but they went overboard: moving to a run-down apartment, eating pickled vegetables and steamed buns every day, even replacing limited-edition Moutai with bulk white wine. The lie falls apart when Xiaoyu helps Lin’s mom find her blood pressure medication and stumbles upon property deeds and Lin’s childhood piano competition trophies. Hurt by the distrust, Xiaoyu tears up and tries to leave.
