A national master of traditional Chinese medicine accidentally transmigrates into a good-for-nothing wastrel with the same name in 1979. When his father falls critically ill, local Western doctors are at a loss, and relatives and friends all despise this once-profligate boy. In a desperate situation, he shows his long-lost ancient medical skills, performs eight needles publicly, pulls his dying father back from the gates of hell, slaps the faces of all villagers who doubted him, and thus embarks on his legendary path of rising to become a divine doctor in the 1970s countryside.
