Master Zhang runs a century-old brine shop, whose soul lies in the three-generation-old secret broth. He treats his apprentice Ming as his own son, but Ming is lured by a rival’s high salary to secretly replace the broth with instant soup cubes. The first batch of food made from the fake soup tastes fishy, driving regular customers away and pushing the shop to the brink of closure. Master Zhang doesn’t fire Ming in anger; instead, he uses his family’s ancient secret method to brew a richer, mellow broth, exposes Ming’s betrayal publicly, and the shop regains popularity for its integrity, with Ming paying for his misdeeds.
