Modern office worker Lin Shen accidentally travels to a turbulent era while working overtime, becoming a lowly jailer guarding the death row. On his first day, he meets Jiang Si, a "criminal woman" secretly imprisoned by powerful ministers—this proud woman is actually the deposed female emperor. Seeing Jiang Si tortured to the brink of death, Lin Shen softens and lets her escape, but this act makes him a target of the powerful ministers and drags him into the royal revenge vortex: Jiang Si returns to the palace, crushes the traitors and reclaims the throne, while Lin Shen is hunted for "releasing a felony" and has to flee. When Jiang Si finds Lin Shen again, she is the high and mighty female emperor, and he is a wanted "fugitive"—between them lies a gulf of power, but also an unspoken heartbeat.
