Shen Zhaozhao, an orphan whose family was exterminated, infiltrates the Marquis Mansion under an alias to investigate the truth. Just as she gets close to a clue, she is exposed by Madam Qin, the powerful old lady who holds sway over the mansion. Expecting death, she is instead presented with a deal—help Madam Qin suppress the power-hungry concubines and win back the estranged young master, and Madam Qin will help her reopen her family’s murder case. Forced into the game, Shen Zhaozhao plays the ‘grandmother-granddaughter unity’ act with Madam Qin, silencing villains left and right. Along the way, she discovers Madam Qin was also a victim of the same old enemy. As the fog of the mansion’s infighting lifts, the two go from being ‘contract partners’ using each other to becoming each other’s strongest backers. Finally, they join forces to take down the old enemy and restore the Marquis Mansion to its former splendor.
