In the glamorous and decadent Shanghai of the 1930s, Bai Die, the top dancer of the Paramount, is found mysteriously dead in a locked room at midnight, with only a blood-stained Lycoris flower left at the scene. Detective Jin Yanqing immediately sees through the "suicide" cover-up, but this leads him to Ling Wei, a rookie reporter—her sister had "committed suicide" three years earlier holding the same Lycoris pendant.
