Lin Xiaoman, a recent graduate and intern journalist, has always disliked her mom's glamorous best friend Su Wan—always in red dresses, out late, and lately haunting high-end clubs. Determined to "expose her disguise" for her mom, Xiaoman sneaks into the club, only to catch Su Wan sitting on a stranger's lap, clinking glasses with a smile! She clutches her phone for "evidence, but a waiter drags her into a private room—inside, teary-eyed women sit there, and Su Wan touches a domestically abused wife's face: "I'll bring a lawyer tomorrow; I've kept all his transfer records." It turns out the club is Su Wan's "women's mutual aid society." Those "intimate scenes" are plays for abusive husbands, to collect divorce evidence for the sisters. More touching: Su Wan still wears the jade bracelet Xiaoman's mom gave her a decade ago—back then, Su Wan was beaten black and blue by her husband, and it was Xiaoman's mom who emptied her savings to help her escape. Now she wears the "vixen" shell as armor, protecting more women like her past self. Xiaoman slowly lowers her phone, finally understanding: some "impropriety" is the most painful tenderness of women.
