Emperor Chu Qingtang of Da Chu disguises herself as a man to uphold her late father's last wish and stabilize the court. To balance the power of the ministers, she takes Shen Yan, a hostage prince from the rival state of Jing, into the palace as her "personal attendant". Shen Yan seems obedient but secretly plots to restore his country. Yet, as they spend days together, he develops an unacknowledged affection for the "emperor"—is it for the "young emperor" who secretly eats osmanthus cakes while reviewing memorials late at night, or for the woman beneath the dragon robe? When Chu Qingtang's female identity is exposed and Shen Yan's revenge plan unfolds, will their bond be redemption or eternal ruin?
