Lin Hao, a failed entrepreneur drowning in debt, lives in a run-down urban village with his 5-year-old daughter Xiaotang, unable even to afford a birthday cake for her. Just as he resolves to sell his only picture book manuscript to pay off debts, Xiaotang secretly takes the manuscript to kindergarten—she’s been telling the kids the story of “Dad Star Looking for Light” every day, becoming the class’s “little storyteller”. This catches the eye of a publishing editor who’s there to pick up her child—and it turns out the editor is an intern Lin Hao helped years ago. She not only signs the manuscript but also secures IP investment. When Xiaotang holds up a tiny cake bought with her pocket money and says, “Dad’s light is found,” Lin Hao realizes: his daughter isn’t a “lucky kid”—she’s the “little sun” that pulled him out of despair.
