Lin Jia, a cultural relic restorer, accidentally triggers the mechanism of a Warring States period painting. Every time she touches the scroll, she’s pulled into the world of Wei Jian, a nobleman from the painting—war-torn Yingdu’s Jianjia reeds, his silhouette writing “Jianjia is lush and green” with dew under the lamp. But every time she tries to approach, her fingertips burn from the scroll. Until she finds a silk manuscript in the painting’s interlayer: “I’ve seen the Jianjia reeds a thousand years later—whiter than Yingdu’s, like the gauze on your skirt hem.” Turns out, she isn’t the one chasing him; Wei Jian spent two thousand years binding his soul to the painting, just to wait for the girl who knelt in the museum, gently wiping dust off the frame.
