Su Xiaoman, a new office worker, offends Jiang Shan, the heir to a conglomerate, over a file mix-up. She expects trouble, but instead, Jiang starts tricking her into spending time together—asking her to pretend to be his girlfriend to fend off suitors, faking illness to get her to bring congee, even hiding her favorite orange soda in his office fridge. Xiaoman thinks it’s a rich kid’s prank, until she finds Jiang’s old notebook: filled with photos of her from college club events, and the last page reads, “Today I tricked her into lunch again. When she smiled, my heart raced faster than running three laps on the playground back then.” Turns out, Jiang has liked her since their sophomore club days—all those “tricks” are just his way of saying “I want to be with you” without courage.
