Lin Zhaoyue, a cultural relic restorer, takes on repairing a Tang Dynasty jinse (an ancient lute). Hidden in its intricate carvings are love letters between Jinse, a female musician, and a young general. As she works, vivid past-life dreams haunt her—she was the musician who played until her fingers bled for her lover, and Gu Shen, a mysterious antique shop owner, looks exactly like the general. Stranger still, touching the lute leaves a cinnabar mole on her wrist, identical to Jinse’s. Gu Shen reveals he shares her past-life memories; he’s searched for the lute to fulfill their unfinished vow.
