The rain shatters the convenience store's neon lights. Su Wan, a night clerk, is counting instant noodles when Lin Shen—bloodied and wounded—shoves her behind the shelf. He just uncovered evidence of a financial scandal, and a black car is chasing him to silence him. Su Wan impulsively hides him, and their lives become tangled in thorns: she works three jobs to pay her brother's leukemia bills; he risks his life as evidence is stolen. She fears dependence will bring loss; he fears closeness will put her in danger. But when her brother falls comatose, Lin Shen's back as he rushes the child to the ER; when gangsters ransack the store, Su Wan holding her phone and shouting, "I recorded everything"—turns out, the moonlight in the thorns is always lit by two people together.
